Shahraman Of Lebanon
The beautiful and talented Shahraman dances in the classic Lebanese style!
Her presence is elegant with a feisty edge that is accented by her gorgeous costumes, many that she designs herself!
Recently, I had a conversation with Shahraman and asked her some questions about her dancing career.
Here is a snippet of our conversation!
When did you decide that you wanted to become a professional dancer?
” The Truth, it is in my blood. I never thought to be a dancer until one time a manager of a hotel came to me and proposed that I learn to dance professionally and he would give me a contract for one year. He gave me one month to do that!
So, I bought videos of all the dancers I could find. I proceeded day by day, hour by hour, watching and practicing. Some times I spent 6 to 8 hours a day because I was determined to learn and be a professional.
What did help me, I believe, is that my father was a professional ballet dancer and my mother was a professional circus artist. That, along with my stubbornness, made it work!
In one month I was on stage! Belly Dance became my life…my oxygen!
The first time I really felt I was a professional dancer was when I worked in the restaurant ‘Carte Blanch’ in Lebanon. I worked with many Super Star singers like Ragheb Alama, Milhem Barakat and George Wassouf.”
What were some of the ‘Best Moments’ in your career?
“I think for every dancer the best moment is when she feels wanted and starts knowing people that encourage her. One of those times was when I worked with Mr. Simon Asmar on LBC. He gave me what I was missing, self-confidence, and it made me a star.
I am thankful to Setrak, the best tabla player. We made CD music for dancers. Also, Toros Seranossian, my agent, from the beginning of my career, until now.”
Who are your favorite dancers from the past? Who has been your greatest inspiration?
” Hawaida Hashem from Lebanon as well as Samia Gamal and Nagwa Fouad from Egypt.”
What is your message to any dancers that dream of being a professional?
” When the dancer is starting they are copying the teacher and other dancers. That means the dancers are all dancing the same way. Sometimes I get confused between the dancers because they are an exact copy of other dancers. Each dancer has to be a special style. So, don’t memorize what you see, take something you like but present it in your own way.”
Shahraman is a Bright Star that shines her unique brilliance on the world!
Here is a final ‘taste’ of Shahraman in a video clip of Feno Habibi by Hisham Abbas!
